Trees Down - February 8, 2023 @goldenoakfarm

Behind barn - tree trimmed back crop Feb. 2023.jpg

Remember how my helper friend and I had seen the tree guys up by the barn cutting branches off this tree? Well, that’s not all that happened up there. I don’t know how we missed it happening, but we did.

I went out to see what was what on Wednesday morning and got a surprise.

Somehow or time they cut all these down too.

And this one too. They did a real nice job of cleaning up behind the barn, along the whole length of it. I sure hope they didn’t get poison ivy for their efforts, as it’s thick back there.

This is the trash wood pile and a pile of wood chips tainted by poison ivy that’s behind the barn.

Barn roof damage crop Sept. 2021.jpg

In July of 2021 one of the neighbor’s trees came down on the barn and damaged the roof. I paid to have that cleaned up.

And I’m guessing this is why the neighbor had the trees down. This is the last window on the east end of the barn. I can’t see this area from the house and never go back there for anything. But it is clearly visible from their outdoor riding ring and they must have seen the tree on the barn. They must have figured it was their turn to deal with the trees.

The contractor looked at it Wednesday night and will fix it for me. I just have to clean up all the glass on the ground. But the poison ivy, which I am severely allergic to…

On Tuesday night as I was watching videos, I heard something outside in the driveway, so I turned off the video. It was the tick, tick, tick of large sleet hitting the house and windows.

This is what I found in the gardens when I went out to do chores Wednesday morning.

It wasn’t on the stone walkway. That must have radiated enough heat to melt it as there was no ice there. It was mighty crunchy to walk on, but not slippery, in the driveway.

Pothos - remaining vines crop Feb. 2023.jpg

On Wednesday the plumbers showed up to do the tub faucet at 7:30AM. I set to work on the laundry again and resumed work on the pothos. There were only 4 vines that were salvageable.

This pile of vines is only 4. A couple of them were in excess of 20’ long and make up 80% of the pile.

These were all the cuttings I got.

Pothos - finished crop Feb. 2023.jpg

This is the finished plant. It went back into the office window.

Amaryllis - 2nd bud opened crop Feb. 2023.jpg

And the 2nd bud on the amaryllis opened.

On Thursday my general helper is here and we have to take the car to the mechanic. Hopefully it’s a quick fix and we can come back. Tom will pick us up if not.

I’m not sure if my helper friend will be here midday or not. I have to call and find out. I’m hoping to get a lot more done on the house plants on Thursday. The contractor will be back after 3PM.

Hello lovely lady! 😊

Sorry to see more damage to your barn. Glad to see your neighbour taking care of the trees this time, that's one less headache for you. Now about the glass shards on the ground in that icky poison ivy you're allergic to, do you have a Shop Vac? You could use it to suck up the pieces while avoiding the ivy, though I'd still keep completely covered while doing it, just to be safe. 😊

Keep safe while working on that and Lord willing, you'll come out untouched by the ivy and find a replacement pane/window for the broken one quickly. 😊

God bless you and your wonderful family. Have an awesome day my fabulous friend! 😊

The contractor will repair the window, it just needs a pane of glass. Shop vac would work for the smaller pieces...
