Two Projects Finished - November 19, 2024 @goldenoakfarm

Christmas cactus2 flower and buds collage crop Nov 2024.jpg

On Tuesday morning I was up just after 4AM and got my post up. Then I cleaned up the kitchen and made a cup of tea and sat down for a while. I got up and started putting candles in the windows and by the time my helper friend arrived just after 9:30AM, I had the first floor done.

The Christmas cactuses in the living room have lots of buds and one has a flower. That was a nice surprise to find.

He carried the candle storage box to the second floor then left to do errands and shopping. I got the second floor finished and went out about 10AM to the Small garden. I started picking up the remaining oak leaves and cleaning out the flowers and finished just as my helper friend arrived back from errands.

He brought over 2 bales of mulch and we filled in the empty and low places. The Small garden is ready for winter.

Tarps washed collage crop Nov 2024.jpg

The tarp we washed on Monday was dry so we folded it and put it in the shed. Then I went and put on my husband’s fishing outerwear to try to stay some dry. We laid out the tarps, he scrubbed them with the broom, and I rinsed them. Then we got them up on the clothesline and I sprayed off the dirt and grass from the underside.

We ran out of room on the clotheslines, so we folded the small tarps in half and hung them on the grape trellis and on the garden fences to dry.

When I had been cleaning out the Small garden I saw a few of the garlic had sprouted. It was only planted a month ago.

Pam - soaked and cold crop Nov 2024.jpg

The upper part of me was cold and very wet, as I couldn’t find my husband’s jacket. The rest stayed dry. When we finished I couldn’t get out of the cold wet things fast enough!

Window candles in crop Nov 2024.jpg

This is the house lit with the candles. I love the soft glow in the house and keep most of the lights off if I can.

My helper friend had gotten me laundry cleaning components when out shopping and I got the first load in the washer with them and hot water to start the stripping process. I hope I can get all 3 loads done before the contractor arrives on Wednesday to fix the washer. It takes 4 – 5 hours per load.

I was VERY achey and exhausted and just watched a movie the rest of the afternoon.

On Wednesday I hope to get the tarps put away with my son and the gutter guys are supposed to come late morning. I don’t have much planned as I expect I will crash from all I did today.

Sort:

Love the fishing clothes! Nobody needs to look fashionable out in the garden; you ought to see the patched and faded clothes I wear out there. You sure are an early riser! I prefer to get up around 7:00.

Yeah, my gardening clothes are simply functional, and usually very stained. I am a messy gardener!

I've always woken between 4AM and 6AM. It's when I have the most energy. I usually die around 11AM - noon and don't get much done the rest of the day. Thursdays have had to be the exception, as my helper can only come after noontime. It's been a killer day for both of us.

The soft glow of the candles are beautiful, a wonderful view.

Oh! I meant to get that kind of cactus, I forgot about that as I was too busy. The house with candles in the windows looks like a fairy tale! It’s very nice indeed.
You have been working too hard. I have to take a break from working too hard in my garden too. Would love a sauna!

Ma'am is that you in the picture? You are really looking very beautiful and young.... Wow, the candles has just added more beauty to the house.

Aww
The house with candles is really cute
It’s so beautiful

That's so nice with all candles turned on

I would have been frozen washing tarps in the cold, yikes! The house looks awesome with all the candles, yay another task accomplished.

I think you should try to always get your husband’s jacket close to you next time so you don’t feel too cold
