2 weeks ago we received our broilers (meat birds). We got 50 birds all one day old chicks. This is our first time raising meat birds so we weren't sure how intense the process is. We currently have a lot of layers which we've been doing really well with. We brought the chicks home and set up 5 big cardboard boxes with food and water in each and split the chicks up evenly. Chicks need 6 square inches per bird when they're small.
We decided to build an add on to our chicken coop so we could move the chicks outside after about 2 weeks. We also need to section off about a quarter of our run so that the chicks could go outside.
The layers unfortunately spend 3 months of the year in the run since its gardening time. Once the food has been harvested they are back to full access passes.
These 2 boys are going to masters at raising chickens and gardening when they're older. They help us with everything around the homestead. They are super good helpers!
The run is complete. I hope the chicks like it!
I wish it wasn't raining outside. They were all outside earlier in the day and would've made for a much better picture. It's nice to see them flapping and running around. A lot nicer of a life then cardboard boxes.
Awesome Post!

Good job, well done! Congrats! We "only" have a terrace garden where we grow veggies and small fruit trees vertically. We also raise chicks, quails, crayfish and rabbits. No space too small to grow one's own organic food! Thank you for this very informative blog! Love to all the family! @antje
Thank you very much
