Making your homemade ketchup:
- Combine seasonings, honey, and tomato paste in a medium bowl.
- Add water to achieve the consistency that you prefer. It will thicken as it stands, so you might want to leave this a little on the thin side.
- Transfer ketchup to a jar with a tight-fitting lid. Store in the refrigerator.
Is this ketchup really paleo?
This ketchup is sugar free in that it doesn't use highly processed sugar, or high fructose corn syrup. It is sweetened with raw honey, which is paleo. Feel free to adjust the amount of honey according to your tastes as well.
How to use your homemade ketchup:
- Black Bean Burgers
- as a base for Homemade BBQ sauce
- Homemade French Fries
- Smother your ground beef burgers or hot dogs with it.
How long does this ketchup last?
This will normally stay good in the refrigerator for up to 3 months. However, if your ketchup tastes funny at any time, it's best to get rid of it.
It does not freeze well, and this has not been tested as a safe canning recipe.

Can I use tomato sauce instead of tomato paste?
Sure! If you don't have tomato paste on hand, feel free to substitute with tomato sauce. You will want to add less water as the sauce has more of a liquid consistency to it.
