Lost Power Today With Eggs In The Incubator!!!

We filled the incubator up on Sunday with our red ranger meat bird eggs from the week. We eat a lot of chicken And plan on selling whole chickens during the Spring and Summer so we will be incubating a lot of red ranger eggs this year.

At about 2:15 today our power went out. We are still plugged into the grid so we were at the mercy of Duke Power to get it back on. Luckily it wasn't off a long time. They got it back on at about 3:15.

I was worried that the incubator would lose too much heat so I wrapped it up in a blanket to try to keep as much heat inside as possible. I have hatched eggs under Broody hens and they usually get off the eggs to eat and drink so hopefully an hour wasn't too long for the eggs not to have heat.

Hopefully when we candle these little guys there is movement in the eggs. Keeping my fingers crossed!

Thank You For Popping By

I like your reasoning that broody hens get off the eggs sometimes, so hopefully an hour under the blanket won't hurt these eggs. Keeping it positive! I hope the chickies made it!

Thank you @mtnmeadowmomma. I hope to make it to

Time to think about off grid options

Good thing you were there to handle the situation quickly! Hoping for a positive outcome regardless of the 'hiccup'.

They used to heat incubators with a small kerosene stove. I wonder if you could re-adapt that old tech?

Not a bad idea @dawg-boy!! Going to have to do some thinking on that!
