Once again my chickens are earning their keep

You can't stop life even when you have a dog who tried to end your chicken future forever. As in my previous posts I found out the culprit who did a mass killing on all my chickens was my precious dog. We made a tough decision and moved her on to another home without chickens. In her kill she proceeded to kill all and I mean all my laying hens. At first I was extremely discouraged and actually decided to give up having chickens. But my love for fresh eggs and being a little self sufficient drove me on.
Month after month of finding nothing in the nest boxes was discouraging but I didn't give up faith. Finally the first egg showed up. It was a morning of excitement. I'm sure some would think I was going loopy being this happy over one egg but it really was a new beginning for me and my chickens. As each day came more eggs were in the box. First they were tiny now they are getting to be a nice size. I only have seven hens two that are quite young still and I get five eggs each day so I feel content. I need to get more hens but for now its all good. I'm very glad I didn't give up.

Don't think you are loopy at all! We both totally understand the feeling of looking into the coop and finding such a wonderful treasure. We are blessed by it every day!

I love it its like easter everyday. It gets my daughter outside and makes her want to be responsible. Have fun enjoying your treasures.

Oh this happened to me, I'm now only left with two laying hens and it took them a while to start laying again. Congrats on your new egg harvest!

I am sorry that it happened to you too I hope you too will be able to pick up where you left off. Best of luck

It is bad when your best friend(your dog) is killing your chickens. I hope I never have that problem. Glad you are getting some eggs now. Fresh eggs yum!

Thanks yeah it sucked and it was hard to realize who was the killer but on the brighter note we are getting eggs again. Thanks for reading my posts.
