RE: The Aquaduct: Storing and Moving Water on the Homestead ~ Building an Irrigation system with Homestead Rescue

in #homesteading7 years ago

So cool! Thank you for the fun story and pictures! We are very fortunate to have an artesian well on the property with the most delicious water around! -if you are not familiar, it is a well that self pressurizes so there is no need for a pump to get the water out of the ground - There is an area just a little upland from the field where it boils out on the surface. My plan is to dig a catchment, plumb out of the bottom, run piping under the driveway into the field and then attach that to a drip irrigation system. This project will most definitely be shared to Steemit when completed!

Wow, artisian well! What a blessing. Would love to see what comes of your project, sounds like a great idea. Ever think of digging a pond to hold water and add habitat diversity?

Most definitely! On the south west corner of the property it gets pretty wet with standing water in the winter. I want to dig a deep multi tiered pond and stock it with local trout. The pond would help with drainage and it would also be a stockpile of protein. And of course all of the water fowl and frogs etc. that will be drawn to it. I would also love to build a little Dock off of the shore so that my daughters can drop bobbers in the water and do some catch and release with the trout - or catch and eat. They would have so much fun doing that!

Yes to all of it! Dont forget about choice edibles like water chestnuts, watercress and lotus.

Good call! I will have to look into what works around here!
