Once female chickens, hens, are old enough, they should start laying daily on average. Eggs take 24-26 hours to develop writhing their bodies. So you can hope to expect at least 5-7 eggs per week. It also depends on the breed of the chicken as some are bred to lay more reliably than others.
Chickens can lay all year round but typically stop in the winter because they require a certain amount of daylight. This can be remedied with a light in the coop to give them a couple more hours of light. They will stop laying if they go into a molt or even sometimes if they're too hot. :)
