Well...another 2 weeks of building has gone by, this time we got some of the more difficult tenons and mortises completed for the roof.
Tenon at 45 degrees
Most of the material can be knocked away easily after making multiple relief cuts with the circular saw.
Then shave material away so that it fits just snugly in the tenon.
The top (peak), was a little easier, however math and geometry solving can cause me terrible headaches.
The rafters were laid flat, and the purlins mortised in(let in), the same way as the joists. Multiple days of fitting, shaving, and refitting again to get to this point.
Almost done the roof frame, just need to add a few more purlins, then we can start on the posts, beams, and braces.
All that measuring and headaches paid off. The pitch was spot on, and all the rafters measured perfectly to each other.
The most satisfying step in the process is hammering in the wooden pegs(treenails).
Thanks for viewing :D

Holy smokes man are you building all this by your self? Awesome joint work guy. Thanks for posting this looks like some hard yakka m8 but it is looking amazing cheers. I am following and up voted
Thanks for the compliments. My wife, 16y/o son, 13y/o daughter and I are working very hard on this project. I couldn't imagine doing all the work by myself. "Many hands make for light work", I think the old saying goes. We are pretty novice...but getting better with every swing of the mallet.

Thanks, Checked out your posts, can I ask were your located? Fruit trees makes me think in a nice warm southern region.
That's awesome guys. I really wanted a log cabin but when we found our place it was in the perfect location. A good trade off. Just followed. Looking forward to future post.
I have been binge watching your content, "the perfect location" is an understatement. The wife kids and I still talk about picking up and moving to Alaska, who knows, you may end up with new neighbours one day. ;)
That would be great! It's nice to have good neighbors.
