CHECK OUT THIS YEARS GARLIC HARVEST!

div.jpg

We had an outstanding garlic harvest this week and we wanted to show you how we prepare and display the garlic for use. As you fans of the homestead may already know, Jaimie loves to cook and she also likes things to be pretty as well as functional. That is way we prepare the garlic the way we do in the kitchen.

This garlic will be hung in the kitchen and ready to be used by the hands of the cook when she needs it.

Also, one of the garlic displays was chosen to be given away to one of our Patrons over at http://patreon.com. Congratulations to Chris Howard!

You'll have that vampire outbreak licked in no time!

Fastastic harvest. My wife and I are growing garlic and boy it is looking good. Thank you for your videos. Tom

Thanks Tom for watching! Come back and post pictures of your harvest when you get it!

After watching this one and the one that Off Grid with Doug and Stacy and Growing Your Greens also did has motivated me to give it a try this fall!

Yep! Garlic planting is right around the corner!

That's not enough garlic. Next year grow more ;P - Shalom

WILL DO!

I see some flavoursome meals for many weeks ahead ;)

Oh yeah!

Wow those garlics look good.

We've just grown garlic for the first time this year but here in wet and windy west Wales they are not as big as yours. But the polytunnel (hoop house) will be finished next week so maybe we can get a better crop in that next year.

Yeah i would think a lot of water may not be good for them. I never water my garlic...its just what falls from the sky.

Nice brother. I got mine in the ground late so non for me this year but it's keep the bugs out. Upvote God Bless.

Thanks for watching!

I could see garlic scapes on the plants before they were picked. We had read that if you cut them off when they come up the garlic itself will grow bigger. This did work for us and now we enjoy the scapes early in the ye ar, and put them in glass jars on the counter because they are so graceful. How did your garlic get so big even with leaving the scapes on?

I used the small garlic that was leftover from last year and planted them in the spring. They seem to be growing at the same pace as the ones planted in the fall.

I think its a wivestale that if you cut them they grow bulbs. They will grow bulbs regardless. We do eat them. YUMMY!

I meant that the plant would put more energy into the garlic bulb. Our garlic were coming out so tiny but this did help to increase the size of the bulbs.
Do you notice this with those you cut the scapes off?

I totally believe it might be true but I've just never done it because I never had an issue. I will make an effort to do that next year! THANKS!

Yes, although I think your fertilizer might account for the large size.
Will we still be here comparing notes about gardening next harvest? Having just started this less than 2 weeks ago I am amazed by how much I am learning.

We use rabbit manure in most of our garden. We can get it for $50 by the truckload. It is amazing stuff. Also, we found a source for freshly used mushroom compost and that stuff is amazing! We top off with back to eden style wood chips to cover the soil and keep in moisture. I highly recommend watching the Back To Eden movie if you can.

Good advice. I'll look it up.

WOW great harvest of Garlic, plant medicine finest... definitely upvote & following you..many thanks for posting...much peace 2U:)

Thanks for coming and watching! Appreciated!

LMAO!!... "maybe he's a cook in the military" priceless!! beautiful harvest of garlic. I am about to harvest my first crop of lettuce and will be replanting, cuccumbers and beans are coming along great...my root crops not so much. the radishes, beets and carrots all seemed to put all of their energy into producing greens this spring...nothing worth keeping of the first radish harvest.. all of the tubers were hard fibrous little things that while flavorful, were far too woody to consume... hoping the second crop is better. Heard somewhere that root vegetables for the most part, do not like rich fertile soil, and will often produce leafy tops instead of producing the root.. so we have stopped feeding them entirely and will see how it goes... As always, i love your content Zac, keep em coming. upvoted!

Good point with the root vegetables. I had the same experience with my radishes - beautiful tops and disappointing roots. I will experiment with that too. Thanks for the tip!

no problem, this year was my first attempt at root vegetables.. I live in a urban environmet, so what i grow is limited. I am experimenting right now to find what varieties i can grow successfully. So when i am able to buy my homestead i will already have enough experience gardening so i will have many food crop varieties i can successfully grow. I've learned quite a bit from Zac and his videos @mericanhomestead , and many others who have channels on gardening on youtube...

Love garlic and that is a fantastic way to keep it near to hand!

Gorgeous! Roasted garlic on the grill.....yummmmmm

I love your enthusiasm! You make even harvesting garlic look like fun!

Looks very healthy crop and the benefits of garlic are enormous.

Antioxidant power
Anti inflamatery power
Anti diabetic
Lowers cholesterol levels

These are just few of the health associated benefits with garlic.

That is a real nice crop, the one your holding looks the size of a baseball! Congrats on the nice harvest.

Congratulations! Awesome harvest. i love seeing what you guys are doing. Keep the posts coming! You get my vote.

Genius! The most nutritious and delicious ~ Garlic Gravy Good For The Soul...

I love garlic in all my veggies! Food tastes funny au-naturel....

my friend over on that other social media site, mark (garlic) brown in st louis ( https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100008192238729 ) also had a huge harvest of his garlic. i've been trying to get him and some others to post over here without success 😉. anyway, beautiful heads!

How did you get garlic already?!?

I'm actually a bit late to harvest. We plant them in the fall and harvest in spring.

ohhhhh smart!

Love this video! I will be planting hard neck garlic this year for the first time since we are moving to Northern Montana. It was nice to see what I can do with the garlic instead of braiding it. What kind of garlic is this and how is the flavor? We are going to try Siberian garlic this fall.

I love this idea, so super cute and functional!!! Added bonus- garlic is super tasty plus it also has some medicinal purposes. I think I will add this to my list of plants I would like to try growing next year!

I fricken love this video! This is my favorite by far. I watch you guys as you grow every year but to be able to grow most of your own food and hunt with canning over a fire and food preservation this channel rocks! I would love to grow that much garlic and hang it in my kitchen one day. Please keep up the great videos and thanks for letting us know where to find you on steemit!
