The Great Homestead Wasp Fight

in #homesteading6 years ago (edited)

It was the largest wasp nest ever found on the homestead. It just grew and grew and finally we had to take action. So we drew up our battle plans and launched our assault. It took multiple days of chemical strikes and in the end, the enemy was dead with few allied casualties.

Can you smell that? It smells like....Raid Spray. :)

Now the clean up process will be something for sure. They left behind a lot of dead bodies, larva, and insect poop that will have to be scrubbed from the walls. Not to mention the chemical clean up from the spray that I really don't want to come into contact with our food in the dehydrator.

We have wasp nests that every year have to be dealt with. They are a great predator to keep around especially in the garden. They will eat different worms and harmful insects that damage plants. But this nest just got too big and it was in a location that just could not be justified.

You didn't stick the landing very well so for the tumble I give you an 8! But nice recovery! : -D

AWE!! I didn't drop anything...that should at least give me a 9

After careful re-examination of the video, the judge(me) has decided to change the score from 8.0 to 8.5. I'm sorry a score of 9 was considered but not accepted! hahaha

Wow those are huuuuuuuge! :-) I don't mind having a nest or two around either for the benefits you said above... so long as they're out of my immediate vicinity.

I loved your combat roll.lol It was very well executed, pardon the pun.

Just a hint for next time you need to exterminate a wasp, hornet or yellow jacket nest, go in and spray either early dawn or at dusk when all the bees are more likely to be home in the nests. Then after you remove the nests you can use a power washer to clean everything out. Raid does linger. We had a yellow jacket nest the would be roughly the size of a 55 gallon drum on our property when we first moved there. Getting rid of the nest and bees was a huge operation. And yes, we did get stung! We also use a product by Raid, something called BeeBlast. I don't even know if it is available anymore...

Cecicastor is correct dawn or evening is best. When they tag you they release pheromones to help others locate you. Scrub with h2o baking soda content. That and time are your best bets for decontamination.

I am interested in the shirt.
