A decent irrigation set up is a great way to automate the watering side of the garden. While many think that setting up irrigation is an expensive exercise, if you are creative and a little handy then it can be had for considerably cheap.
As you can see in the first image we have run a standard garden hose along the fence line, it also runs along the back end of the house as well.
With most of the perimeter having a water delivery system in place, its just a matter of cutting the line and inserting 'T' piece to run to the beds.
In each of the large beds and pots we use another 'T piece' to make a loop, in that loop we drill a undersized hole and ratchet in the spray heads.
To reduce movement of the hose during watering they have been zip tied to the pots themselves.
At the tap end we have a timer to set the irrigation off whenever we want, there are a variety of items like this to suit a number of budgets at the hardware/garden store.
Most of what we have done here is recycled from the previous irrigation set up, but even if we did it from scratch it would be around the $60 mark, I may do a proper costing analysis in future based on what is being used in the images if it was new so we can have a more accurate figure.
And after all is said and done, with a little elbow grease, creativity and a little cursing along the way... we turn the tap on... and we have WATERWORX !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! YAY!!!!!!!!!
Is that a citrus tree I see?! Nice set up! I can't wait to get an actual garden going most likely next year but house hunting right now for a place that has room for a doggy, some chikkinz and a couple fruit trees! Wee shaaalll seeee!!! ✌❤
yeah we have a mini lemon tree rocking it in the yard, wouldnt mind some more larger ones but we are renting so only set up what we can take with us, real estate be trippin yo !!! :P
We still have a bit more to plant, but as you can see the foundation is there so we can expand as we need to ;)
