Jennifer’s first time lighting the rocket water heater! Featuring Josiah's narration. Both wonderful Boots in the Boot Camp here at Wheaton Labs. As you can see in the time lapse taken of the rocket stove, it doesn’t take long at all for the wood to burn down, and then you have 40 gallons of hot water. From start to finish, it takes about an hour, with only 5 minutes of actual work, before you have a perfectly hot shower for 6+ people. If more people want to shower, you can just add a little more wood to keep it going, and the insulating properties of the rocket stove will keep it hot all night. Even through cold nights!
This rocket stove was recently rebuilt in the 2019 Appropriate Technology Course here at Wheaton Labs to make it even more efficient! In this video we detail all the changes that were made to it this year, and how they affect its’ safety and productivity.

Innovative! Exciting.
Somehow I loved the safety feature of the water NOT being overheated - just my perverse sense of humour imagining people being scalded too death instead of having a nice warm shower.
Also the warning to avoid it all exploding.
It is a kick back to my grandfather who invented wonderful things and he had a wicked sense of humour.
Thank you.
