This delicious sweet treat can be enjoyed at any time. The only downside is that it takes a while to make and can be eaten in minutes. Not that we recommend that at all. Everything in moderationomnomnom!
Ingredients
200g Unsweetened Stewed Apple160g Sugar
Pinch Salt
Dash Lemon Juice
Method
Step 1.
Mix in a bowl hot stewed Apple, sugar, a pinch of salt and a dash of Lemon juice.Step 2.
Spread mixture thinly onto a baking tray lined with baking paper. At this stage, you could sprinkle some spices over the top. Try Ginger, Corriander or Curry if you fancy something more than just apple.Step 3.
Place in a low heat oven to dry. This will take several hours. Prop the door open to aid the drying process.Step 4.
Carefully peel the now solidified fruit leather from the baking paper. Then...Step 5.
Sprinkle a little sugar onto the baking paper then roll the leather until you have a fine layer of sugar crystals stuck to the outside.Step 6.
Cut into thin slices.Step Eat.
CONSUME!Fruit and sugar. Wonder why our little Pirate in training loves it so much.
That's so cool! I've never made fruit leather at home before. I love that you did it in the oven and didn't need a dehydrator.
I've only ever made berry based fruit leathers, which are also YUM. The oven, in my opinion, works better than my crappy dehydrator. Probably a lot less power usage too. I'd love to build a multi racked solar dryer which I could pack daily with treats from the garden and creations from my kitchen. One day! :)
You only really need the oven on at 50°C for three hours or so, then leave overnight to set. If it is still a bit too sticky or unset in the morning you can put the oven on again for another hour or two. Maybe quicker than a dehydrator. We used to have a multi-tier one. Got very hot and was very loud. Took ages to dry anything. We don't have it anymore. :)
