So she is laying?
About a month ago, or so, our chickens began laying after a five or six month dry spell. We only have two hens of laying age, and they were laying all over the yard.
More recently, one found the nesting box and started making her daily deposit. The other, I had assumed quit laying again, because I haven't seen any eggs laying in the yard where the girls hang out, and there's only one in the egg box each day.
This morning while I was doing my chores, my dog, Abby was doing her regular perimeter check and sniffing around. After we came back into the house, @shey-dawn noticed that Abby had something in her mouth and had her spit it out.
I have no idea where she found it, I have no idea how old it is. At least it's been cold outside, so it might not be bad.
Now I've got to go out and search around to see if I can find a pile of eggs somewhere. They must be out of the wind because it wasn't frozen or cracked, so that narrows down the search area.
###To be continued...
Thanks so much for your time! Have a great day!
How neat! I wish I had a green thumb and some nice land, I'd have veggies, fruit, and animals all over the place. I bet foraging for natures goodies feels awesome.
I can't wait to be on a big piece of land! My garden is rather small, and I'm super limited on the number of animals I can have. But it's still super rewarding and I'm always amazed at how much I can grow and harvest from my little back yard!
Foraging is so much fun! In my area the next thing I'll be foraging for is morel mushrooms, I think.
Morels! I've only had them once in some bacon grease, but oh my gosh were they delicious! I would love to see more on your garden and critters, keep up the posting :) and happy hunting :D
A little mystery always adds a little bit of excitement to our lives.
Happy Hunting!
And, oh, do we have mysteries around here? :D I find my self saying things like, “What the...” and “How does something like this happen?” all day! But I am never bored!
Those chickens! I wish they would just be consistent..😉 Hope you find more that are still good!
Oh, me too! It’s been so long since we’ve had eggs, and one a day is just a tease! Two a day would be better. But to find a pile of them would mean omelettes for everyone!
Haha right?! Have you tried a "time out" with them? Lol We found that if we left them in their coop till about 1 or 2 then let them out to free range, they laid more in their nesting boxes. Not sure if that would work for your set up. ☺
Weeeeeeeellllllll, a tree branch, the whole branch, broke off and landed on their fence and they’re hopping in. As soon as it dries out a little so my yard isn’t soup anymore we’ll get it patched up. They’re gonna get stuck in there for a while, I’m sick of them pooping on my porch and my chair! lol
Haha oh no! I hope your clean up goes well! Silly birds...they do poop on everything!
