RE: Never on the Homestead

in #homesteading7 years ago

Good post!
We also do not eat pork anymore. We do not buy it from the store anymore, but if a kindly neighbor offers us some home grown sausage as an appreciative gift, we wont refuse it. (Like I mentioned in my recent post about helping our neighbors with their hogs. They do not share our convictions about pork. )
I think there is a huge difference in home grown animals as opposed to factory farmed ones.
Aside from that, however, we no longer do the yearly holiday ham, bacon, ham for sandwiches, breakfast sausage, all that stuff.
We also will not be raising pork on our homestead. There are plenty of other, healthier meat sources to choose from. We did try raising american guinea hogs in the past, before our conviction against pork, and since they are a grazing hog, they would be healthier than most breeds, I would think, but still, pork is pork.
