It's going to be best to research what does well in your area and what you want to do with them. We have many different breeds, but one of our favorites have been barred rocks. They are broody, handle hot and cold temperatures well, are dual purpose meat and egg birds, and will forage.

I’m in Washington and it gets 100* F and down to the negatives sometimes. Thanks for the advise and the extra nudge to get some chickens.
