Another regular day on the homestead for me today. It was colder than I expected, so I didn't do as much outside as I had planned for yesterday. It was the kind of wind that blows right through you.
Here's the sheep, mobbing their hay.
I started working on a simple pallet doghouse for my elderly pooch too. She doesnt handle the cold well in her advanced years, so I have been letting her sleep in my front porch. However, she also pees her bed in her sleep, so that was starting to get a little unpleasant. She normally prefers to be outside, so I thought maybe she'd be happier with a warm cozy place out there instead of in here. The doghouse will be insulated (and possibly heated, if necessary) to be just as warm as our unheated porch. I didn't do very much on it yet, mostly just gathered materials, so I'll tell you more about it tomorrow!

why are you putting marks on the sheep?
Those marks were left by the marking crayon that was worn by the ram (male sheep). It helps me know which sheep are likely to be pregnant, so that I can have a safe warm place ready for them when it is time for the lambs to be born
I understand what you mean, I've had it with pets that do their business inside. I had a cat and it was nice but it was years of picking poop every single day. Enough already.
She lets me know when she is awake! A little bark or scratch and I could let her out. But now she's just peeing in her sleep, so yeah, I'm not keen on wading through puddles to go outside every morning. I despised the litter box too when we had an indoor cat. Not anymore!

We have more snow here in NE BC, I always thought being flat, Saskatchewan would have been burried by now 😊
Haha! You probably get more sniw in the mountains for sure. We get the bitter cold and howling winds, more so. So it drifts really tall in some places and gets scoured right down to bare dirt in others.

Pallets are super handy! Lots of places will give them away for free, at least they do around here. Check at lumber yards and home improvement centers, that's where we find a lot of the ones we use!
