Melanie and I planted our homestead garden after preparing the soil. We hope to become self sufficient in the next year or so and gardening is a big part of that.
I am uploading all of our videos from the time we moved to our new Homestead to the present. When I have caught up, I will carry on with our daily videos as they occur.
We are using a modified square foot garden method combined with the back to eden method.
The square foot garden method teaches that you do not need long farm rows in between the plants. It is a waste of space. You can reach in from all sides of a 4 foot square garden bed. With a garden full of these 4x4 beds, you save a lot of what would have been otherwise wasted space in long, wide rows.
We modified this method by eliminating the 2 foot wide walk ways between the 4x4 planting beds, making a long 4 foot wide row of plants.
We are also using the back to eden garden method which is a no till garden (after preparing the soil the first year). We are going to continue adding mulch and compost each year rather than tilling the soil. This will build up nutrients and reduce weeds.
It also eliminates compacted soil and helps you remove plants and any weeds that may grow.
We got our plants in and it sure looked good.
We also received some packages in the mail.

Well oldcodge, as you already know from the videos, it freezes here all summer long at night. But I could not have known that because just a few miles away the lake keeps it milder.
And the weather report comes from over there, not here.
But you know that already now from my videos.
Now stop trying to twist things all the time.
I had a small garden this year and I enjoyed the work we put into it.
It really is rewarding when you get the harvest from all your labor. We put away over 30 quarts of tomatoes so far this year plus about 20 quarts of mincemeat pie filling. Thats just from the tomatoes. And we have more to can yet.
Got your plants in too early, and they all died from frost damage. Twice.
Total harvest seen on video = Tomatoes, some beans and a few peas. Feed a family for a year? Hardly...
Go back ti sucks!
We are in every place, we constantly travel from website to website, funny though we never watch youtube with Troy Reid, its just not entertaining there, its is very entertaining here.
ummm don't you mean .sucks cause just sucks is not a place.
And if you saw Troys video he invited all of us here he did not exclude trolls, he said " EVERYONE "
Now we are making our selves at home and hanging out here, you have to admit the reading got better.
