My husband and his brother shares a vineyard, it's not big whatsoever but we are grateful of it.
We don't always get to harvest them ourselves as it is not close to where we live. Sometimes we couldn't go there due to bad timing (of school, work, life), but grandparents and neighbors helped when we couldn't, as when it's time to harvest, it's time to harvest, you know.
Our grapes are super sweet, I like to eat them while picking, we don't spray our grapes, so all is good, fresh and natural.
To pick the grapes you would need garden scissor (regular scissor would work too but not the thin flimsy ones), it would help to harvest quicker. As for the grape from the backyard, usually I only pick by hands though, because I am not rushing unlike when I harvest grapes at the vineyard😀
We would only bring home a bucket of these grapes while the rest go to the wine cellar.
The boys (husband and his brother) don't drink the wine. They got the vineyard from their late father, who used to tend the yard with grandparents, and years ago father would sell the wine. However, they didn't want to abandoned the yard, but also don't want to be in the business, so now we mainly harvest to just not waste the grapes, give wine to neighbors or bottled them as gifts when we visit friends and whatnot.
We didn't get to harvest this year as I was planned to have a surgery which being postponed until further notice, and our oldest son wasn't too happy as he already invited some of his classmates to come 😅 Next year, baby 😘
