When Will She Foal?

in #homesteading7 years ago

We've spent much of our day in the barn brushing our Percheron mare who is due any time. She looks like she's getting close, but the only definite way to know if a baby is coming is when you see the baby coming out. Ha! This is our first time breeding horses and we are excitedly awaiting the birth of our first foal. We have another Percheron mare due in May as well.

Here is Touchy enjoying her new stall and waiting to foal. It could be today.....but it also could be awhile longer.

She'll have that baby when nobody is lookin! Haha!

Right? I suspect she's going to wait until the most inconvenient time. Like tomorrow morning when we will be rushing around for dentist appointments! LOL

She is beautiful! She is also a big girl, how large will her foal be?

I like the chicken guard she has, LOL!

She was bred to a Standardbred so her baby will be a bit smaller than a purebred Percheron foal. This is our first time breeding horses, so we are new to this. :)

We used to raise AKC Dachshunds, so from that (smaller beasts, LOL) I can tell you it will not be booring! You will learn tons, and it will be a whole new World. You will have a lot of fun! Still looking forward to pictures.

I suspect it'll be this weekend. We had out of State company all week so I think when they leave this afternoon she will relax more.

I've attended human, goat, sheep, dog, and cat births. I've had ducks and chicks hatch in my hands. I love new life in all forms! I am anxious to hopefully witness my first horse birth. Any day now.....

Very exciting! Wish I was close enough to help, LOL! New life is always impressive! Enjoy, I pray all goes well! Pictures, pictures, pictures...just keep her safe!

Thanks, Read the whole thing, sorry you had an uphill battle! Glad you guys came through to the other side.

Stay Blessed My Sister! :)

Did you tell her to get with it yet, LOL?

Still no foal. She's taking her time, I suppose. Our lives have revolved around this house for two weeks now! We are ready when she is!

Always hard to wait, LOL! It willl be worth it I am sure! Looked at your Hubbys page, thought we might chew the blacksmithing fat a little, But he is smart, and is spending his time on the anvil and not the computer.
