I guess I never really understood why my mom would go out and work in her little garden ... she grew rhubarb, swiss chard (which I love), tomatoes ... SO many varieties (good thing I love fresh tomatoes) OH and her horseradish OY VEY did she have horseradish :)
OK so fast forward to 2017 - we (hubby and myself) have a home with about 1/2 acre. We make the most of the back yard (garden) and we have also tilled around the back boundary and have planted hardy kiwi there and then on the other side we have lilacs, smoke trees and a few other varities. Also in the back we have 4 apple trees (only 2 years old), 2 pear )again only 2 years old) and 2 plum (yep you guessed it - 2 years old !!! ) We had a peach back there but when hubby moved it due to it being in the way of where he was planting the hardy kiwi's - it didn't make it :( We haven't given it it's last rights yet - not sure what he's waiting for ! BUT never fear - we have a new peach tree in the front yard !!!
SO for the last 3 years we have been using the BTE method in our garden (for those that don't know BTE equates to Back To Eden and it has worked GREAT for us. Yes there are the occasional weed but not like it was prior to doing it this way.
This was a small harvest from last Sunday - our youngest daughter, son-in-law and 3 yr old grandson came up and Saber (our grandson) helped picked veggies :)
We have been using cattle panels for the tomatoes to grow up against, as well as the beans and cucumbers. The beans - well hubby put the cattle panel into a hoop type thingie (now don't laugh - I'm positive that's a master gardener term !! ) and the beans grow up and over the hoop - check it out !
We've already harvested most of the garlic - there are a few more varieties out there we need to dig up. MORE than 2 people will use in a year - that's for sure, but hey, at least we won't be bothered by dracula ! Trust me - that table is FULL !!!
SOOO I'll just post a few of my pics and let you drool as you gaze on such an awesome garden
NOTE .... this horseradish came from starts I received from my mom probably around 1999-2000 time frame and then also from my Aunt Annette (moms sister) possibly around 2001.
Stay tuned for episode 2 and you just may have a chance to check out the flowers !!
Wow! What a great garden! I love what you are doing!
Thank you ... I haven't been out there in a while so I'm afraid I'll be attacked by green beans gone wild hahaha
Hello and welcome, I am also new to the site like you, follow me @lena1982 and vote together we can succeed
Good luck
hi and following.
hi and thank you !!!
I am so JEALOUS of that horseradish! I am going to get everything ready to plant some next year. It will have to be in raised boxes or my son will cut it with the grass when he comes over to mow.
are you in the states - if you remind me I can send you some as this one is HUGE !!! I can probably send you some this year, not sure if it needs planted like garlic so that it has the cold months to go through or not
Your garden is truly wonderful.
I'm definitely following you! I could learn a thing or two!! Beautiful garden!
What an amazing looking garden!
thank you so much - oh - we're following you now
I'm loving the cattle panel hoop thingie for the green beans! I bet that will make harvest much easier for sure! Your kale looks amazing!i thought the hyacinth beans were poisonous? Something...l but they're sure pretty!i hope my garden next year is half as fruitful as yours, congrats!
good to know that you're real !! so am I and you have a new follower ! It does make harvest time easier - the first cattle panel we put up was in my herb garden and I wanted sunflowers to grow up and over, well that never happened lol If those beans are poisonous I'm in a world of hurt !!! If you'd like any seeds let me know - I've been sending out rattlesnake beans like crazy !!
Rattlesnake beans?! Did I miss that?! What?! Never heard of those!
Also, thank you for following! :) I'd love to see some more far out shots of your garden too! :)
Oh, I am jealous! Both Lilacs and horseradish! Both are my favourite and I have not had any luck growing them where I live now. :(
where do you live ? If you'd like some horseradish let me know - as you could see from the picture it has taken over hahaha and I LOVE lilacs (well the color purple also) ... we are also now followers of yours
I'd love horseradish but I don't think you could mail me any.:( I live in Nicaragua and they are pretty sticky on live plants coming into the country. In future, I will apply for a special permit that will allow me to import live plants. I do miss it though. Lilacs too. It's too darn hot here to grow them:( It's the price we pay for living in paradise...
