Backyard nursery beginnings, adding to the homestead finances. Propagation bed still needs improvement but is a start.
This is a slightly older picture of our sand propagation bed and we have changed out the mister line with dual larger lines. I'm still not quite happy with the this set up either and will likely upgrade to all hard lines but it is performing adequately for now and upgrades can wait until softwood propagation season is over. We have about 150 blueberry cuttings propagating currently, these will be used on the farmstead to bolster our production. We also have approximately 50 blackberry cuttings in the bed as well. There is never enough tasty fruit around the farm.
Perhaps I will do a video or picture post on plant propagation if there is interest.
Until next time.
I'm always interested in plant propagation!
I am a part of this email list where this dude talks a bunch about propagation things. Mike, something or other.
I think it would be real fun to do this! Definitely want more!
I will sure be happy to post more on plant propagation. Thank you for the comment. I am familiar with the guy you are talking about Mike. He has some great information, but I will be happy to share what I know and our experiences.
Fabulous! I can't wait to learn from you. :D Propagation is really rewarding. I was playing with chocolate mint last year. :D
Mint is so super easy to propagate that it will almost overrun you. We have tons of mint around the farmstead. I really need to quit spreading it everywhere it's going to take over. :)
Hahha. We've only had our place since december. I did see one mint pop up, other than that, nothing else. My mint is in pots, but I am tempted to plant some SOMEWHERE... It would be hard for it to take over here, since we're so dry.
Sounds like a good plan and your set up looks to be easy to upgrade when feasible.
Slowly but surely we will get where we want to be. My second son SJ is really excited about setting up the nursery and helps me as he is able. I agree that upgrading will be easy, it really just a matter of timing at this point. Thank you for the comment.
It's great to have a sidekick to help out, especially an enthusiastic one! ;~D
