My wife, daughter and I recently took a trip to Moholoholo Wildlife Centre. There we met the world famous Stoffel the honey badger. He is an escape artist of note and has been documented on various BBC documentaries. Honey badgers are crazy animals, they literally have no fear and have been known to attack anything that moves.
When I say that they have no fear you might think, I am sure that they would not look at attacking a lion or buffalo. Well the truth is that this animal does not know what fear is. That part of the brain has been turned off in these small animals. I recently heard that a honey badger took out a huge buffalo. The honey badger managed to bite off the buffalo's testicals and the huge buffalo unfortunately for the buffalo bled to death slowly.
Stoffel the honey badger is highly intelligent. For such a small animals they have exceptionally large brains. The farmer that keeps Stoffel had to engineer a literal badger prison to keep Stoffel and his mate in. Stoffel managed to escape countless times and almost made a game of getting out of just about any enclosure.
Moholoholo Wildlife Rehab Centre is a fantastic place to visit and they are doing an awesome job taking care of various endangered animals. My daughter (2) even managed to pet a large grown cheetah. When I say pet I mean that the game rangers were holding the animal securely and she got to touch it's fur.
If you are ever in South Africa and decide to go on Safari to the Kruger Park. Check out Stoffel the honey badger. Video and Pictures of the trip included.
