My hops are growing!

in #hops8 years ago

Last night we had a few friends over for some BBQ and socializing. While in our garden area I noticed the hops showing some signs of real life. I got in close to snap a photo of the hops. What a sight! I hope you enjoy the photo.

Later in the summer I'll post an update on how the hops are doing

Magnificent news 📰

I will have to keep an eye out for you post when you turn these into some delicious beer. There are a good number of us beer lovers on here, but I have yet to see a home brewer that grew his own hops! You've got my attention!

Thanks @mk40 ! This is my second season growing hops. Unfortunately last years grow had to come to an end because we moved unexpectedly. But now we are settled into our own home and these hop bines are doing great! I look at them everyday. In the fall, once these are ready for brewing I will definitely post about it then. In the meantime I hope to brew a batch this summer, but it's so dang hot that I need to be able to temp control fermentation. I'm in the works of buying a temp controlled fridge...

My dad had tried to grow his own hops when I was younger, but for some reason or another it didn't work out. I would love to be able to brew a beer from something I grew myself!

What kind of beer do you prefer? Currently I am in a kind of strange Sour phase...I think it is the summer weather pushing me towards something that is a little more crisp than I would usually drink.

I can do some sours but don't have much tasting experience with them. Down in LA there's a brewery called The Bruery and they specialize in sours. Check them out if you haven't tried them yet.@mk40 , my main squeeze for a beer is a nice hoppy IPA. I am an open beer lover and try all styles. I do fancy Belgian style beers also. Lately I've been digging the session style beers because they are typically light in % and nice on hot days.
