On a cold snowy night, a 16-year-old girl named Scarlet Snow is alone at home, watching tv. His parents were going to a dinner party at their friend's house. It had been snowing heavily since the afternoon but Scarlet felt comfortable as she sat on the sofa in the living room warming herself with the blanket.
Until midnight, Scarlet's parents didn't come home and she started to get restless. Scarlet didn't want to call them, for fear that they thought she couldn't take care of herself.
The TV is located in the corner of the room, right next to the large window. Scarlet was watching one of her favorite horror movies called “Prom Night”, but suddenly, out of the corner of her eye, she saw something moving in the window.
Through the darkness and falling snow, he could clearly catch the figure of a man, walking right up to the window. As the figure drew closer, he began to see his face and it filled him with fear.
The man's face was full of sinister scars, his eyes were red and wild. He smirked evilly at Scarlet. Frightened, Scarlet tried to hide by pulling the blanket over her head. He didn't want to move at all.
Scarlet slowly peeked out from under the blanket. The man is still there. He just stood there, staring directly at Scarlet as the snow fell heavily behind him. The man pulled something out of his coat and it was a long knife.
Trembling, Scarlet pulled the blanket back over herself and hoped the crazy man thought it was just a blanket on the sofa. He then moved slowly, trying to take the cell phone in his pocket. He pressed the button frantically, and started calling the police. He held his breath as he waited for an answer.
When the operator asks “Is there anything we can help you with?”
Scarlet brought the phone to her face and whispered.
“There was a man standing outside my window. He is holding a knife. Please come as soon as possible.”
He sat without moving an inch as time passed. And finally, he heard sirens ringing outside and the police knocking on the front door.
Scarlet got out of her blanket and rushed to open the front door, letting two policemen in. They explained to Scarlet that they saw no trace or sign of anyone outside her house.
"He's over there" Scarlet said pointing at the window.
"That's impossible," replied one of the female officers. “No one has ever stood out there. The snow didn't fall apart in the slightest. If there really was someone out there, they would definitely leave footprints.”
"But he's really standing there, he's staring at me!" Scarlet said again. "I saw it with my own eyes"
"You know, your eyes can fool you," said the other male officer. "Maybe you watch too many horror movies."
The officers began to turn away from him. But suddenly, the police officer froze and stopped walking. He then pulled the sofa that had been occupied by Scarlet. The officer's mouth and eyes opened wide in shock, as did Scarlet and the other officer. They were very surprised.
On the carpet behind the sofa were wet footprints and a long knife.
"You didn't see a man outside the window, son," said the female clerk. "But you saw his reflection. He's been standing right behind you the whole time."
To this day, Scarlet doesn't know why that man was able to enter and why he didn't kill her. But Scarlet is grateful that he is still alive today.
