A 15-year-old girl named Donna lives with her father in a small house on the outskirts of town. Since her mother died, Donna has only lived with her father.
One morning, Donna's father left on a business trip. As they had breakfast together, he told her he would be home late at night. After that, his father kissed Donna's forehead, grabbed her bag and said goodbye. He walked out the front door.
In the afternoon, when Donna came home from school, she did her homework and watched TV. Towards midnight, his father still hadn't returned so he decided to go to bed.
That night Donna had a dream. He found himself standing on the edge of a busy highway. Cars and trucks drove at high speed. He looked across the highway and saw a familiar figure standing across the street. It was his father. Her hands were cupped around her mouth and she seemed to be shouting something at her, but Donna couldn't hear what she was saying.
As traffic drifted by, he struggled to hear. His father's eyes were sad. He seemed to be trying hard to tell her something.
"Don't... Open... Door..."
Suddenly, Donna is awakened from a dream by a strange knocking sound.
Tok.. Tok.. Tok
Then someone started ringing the doorbell downstairs.
Ring.. Ring.. Ring..
He rushed out of bed and put on his slippers. Then, wearing only her nightgown, she ran downstairs and went to the front door.
Looking through the peephole in the door, he saw his father's face outside. She looked directly at him. The doorbell kept ringing non-stop.
“Okay, wait a minute! I'm coming!”, he shouted.
He put in his key and was about to unlock the door when he stopped suddenly.
He looked through the peephole at his father again. Something about his father's expression didn't seem right. His father's eyes opened wide. There was a look of fear in his eyes.
He pulled the key back into place.
"Dad!", he shouted through the door. "Did you forget to bring your keys?"
Rings.. Rings. Ring..
"Father, answer me!"
Ring Ring Ring.
“Father, please! I want you to answer me!”
Ring Ring Ring.
"Is there anyone else out there with you?"
Ring Ring Ring.
"Why didn't you answer me?"
Ring Ring Ring.
"I won't open the door until you say something!"
The doorbell kept ringing and ringing, but for some reason, his father remained silent refusing to answer. Donaa cried in despair.
During the night, a frightened Donna huddled in the corner of the hall, helplessly listening to the incessant ringing of the doorbell. It seemed to last all night. Finally, he fell asleep restlessly.
At dawn, Donna wakes up and realizes that everything is quiet. He crawled to the door and looked through the peephole again. His father was still there, staring at him.
He carefully opened the door and was faced with a sight that filled him with unimaginable horror.
His father's severed head hung from a nail above the door.
There was a small note attached to the doorbell. In rough handwriting, the note read: "Smart Girl".
