It's American Heart Month – which means now may be an ideal time to give serious thought to matters of the heart.
Heart disease kills 1 in 4 people in the U.S. every year, the leading cause of death for both men and women. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention says the toll amounts to approximately 610,000 Americans.
The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services recommends people make heart-healthy decisions this month in an effort to make change. This includes everything from suggesting people use spices in lieu of salt when they cook, encouraging educators to incorporate physical activity into the school day and asking medical professionals to talk to their communities about heart disease prevention habits.
In honor of American Heart Month, here's a look at the U.S. News ranking of the 10 Best Hospitals for Cardiology & Heart Surgery from around the country. Click on the map below to see where the hospitals are and where they landed in our ranking.
