Steemians friends and fans, greetings. We are here again and I do welcome you wholeheartedly. What's up with the just past weekend? Hope it was fun-filled for us all. Welcome. Before I go into the business of the day, I want to quickly say something...
For the past few weeks, I have been revealing many approaches we can adopt to succeed here... And at the end of each episode, people usually beseech my privacy to ask for links to most of my posts on different topics bothering on success in Steemit. So I think it would be better to categorize these lessons by assigning them different numbers for easy access. Hence, what we have today has been labeled Lesson 1.
Having said that; today...we will be looking at one of the most effective tools for succeeding on steemit, which is your "Following list", and how we could use it to our advantage. By definition, "Following list" is a tab where the names of the people you follow are recorded so that you can access them and edit accordingly whenever you have to. The works of this people will be displayed in your feeds and be visible to you whenever they update their blogs. This is why you must be careful on who you follow...
There are a lot of reasons to follow people. Maybe someone is a new steemian but highly active on your blog, that may be good enough reason to follow the person. Another reasons people follow people maybe because they introduced them to the community and feels obligated to follow them; others include friendship, organizational ties, marriage, etcx. Again, there are many Steemians, mainly among new members, who discriminately follow people because they are yet to grasp what "following" tab really mean.
Whoever you choose to follow, have it in mind that whatever that person does on his page, you will be seeing them on your feeds.
Maximizing your "Following" list
Consider working with the following points in order to maximize your following list:
Be choosy on who makes your list
You need to be extremely selective on who makes your list in order to gauge what appears on your feeds. Any author, no matter his SP, who doesn't engage people by replying to (or upvoting) comments should not make your list. Likewise anyone who is not active in the community but only writes and dumps links in post promotion channels for God's-know-who to curate and comment on. Also included in this are authors that resteem substandard posts, unless such posts are #introduceyourself posts.
Between your list and postpromotion channels
A lot of folks don't know how useful their following lists could be to their success. They pay no attention to it, but would rather go to various postpromotion rooms at their convenience to pick posts and curate randomly. Unless you are already popular and successful, you can never succeed engaging in this type of untargetted approach. Because when you do this, the people you curate and comment on their works today may not be the same you would choose tomorrow. And the result is; everyday you are new to different people. And so establishing a connection becomes impossible.
Pay more attention to your list than postpromotion channels. I am not advising total disregard of post promotion channels; no. Because curators still make use of them to select good posts. And so when your post isn't there, you risk missing out completely. Simple strategy to adopt is... Before you drop a link on a specific post promotion room, first look around and pick works of serious authors you know; comment and curate, and possibly follow them so that their works would begin to appear on your feeds. And then drop your link.
Unlike post promotion rooms, unless it is a resteemed post, don't skip any post you see in your feeds because it must have been coming from someone you followed, especially when you are still new. Work with your following List as closely as possible and consistently too. To be consistent with your list, you must review your feeds every 4 hours in order for posts not to be buried and missed.
Consistency wins the race
If you hope to improve your earnings here and attain a level of popularity, then you must be consistent with your list. I had said this before; without being consistent with people you choose to work with, even if you spend 2 years on Steemit, they would never know you. And hence would most likely not return your visits. You have to be consistent to register your name in their conscience. And the best way to do this is commenting objectively on their posts repeatedly, and not by sending them direct messages.
When you work with your list consistently, a significant number of those in your list would follow you back and in time you would begin to enjoy their patronage.... Be consistent! Thank you

From the leader
The boss
Very interesting perspective on how to use your following list. Looks like I probably could improve my results through some thoughtful experimentation in the techniques.
Yes that is very possible. Thank you
As always you have made sense once again. Most People underestimate the importance of relationship on steemit. Steemit is a community and you need your own team to make it in here. Some people do not interest in general room but will always drop post in post promotion room as if those in the general room are jobless and looking for posts to curate. Familiarity is of utmost important. What's your marketing strategy?
Consistency with a certain group of people with objective comments will not only make one visible but familiar to those he/she is following.
Nice tips as always. Your blog is always a well of knowledge
And that's the bullet
Thanks
@eurogee
Following each other especially on steemit is helping each other and helping oneself. I have alot of testimony on following people on steemit. You can imagine posting an aticle and people you dont know upvote your post . it is a means getting connections among people of intellectuals in the world. You grow yourself when you follow people. The people you follow are expecting a tangible result from you as in posting a recommendable article and upvoting and commenting on their respective posts. The most dangerious part of it is following who is not yout level because you want a better upvote from them. It does not walk that way at all. You must grow with some set of people,follow each other, creat an atmospere of friendship amingst each other,by so doing you learn from the benefit and fall of each other. Thanks boss @eurogee. I will always be greatful beacuse you had me gotten connected to people i never imagine could be important personell in life. God bless you sir. It is your boy @goddywise4-eu. In fact this post needs resteeming.
Thank you for your insights too
@eurogee
Nothing much to say than you are truly a leader that want everyone to succeed. Thanks always for giving us the key
Thanks you
You didn't follow back or check out my page tho... :P
Insightful. Great post boss. Thanks for sharing..
My pleasure sir
Consistency wins the race << Key
Thanks for the enlightenment.
You keep making valid points always, many of the things we disregard and see as trivial.
You the best!
Thanks for the tips sir. I will do as you suggest
Please do. Thank you
This is one of the best tips i have heard. The truth is people don't actually consider their followers, all they care about is people they follow and its wrong. Anyways thanks boss @eurogee
Then blame steemit programmers because You don't see the works of your followers as they don't appear on your feeds. And you can't possibly go through the followers list in order to prove you care. Any follower who wants to enjoy your patronage should work to be added to your following list so that you would continuously get to see his words. This is the simple truth about Steemit and the earlier you realize this, be better for you. Thank you
@eurogee
Thanks @eurogee. This was really an interesting and helpful lecture. "Be consistent with your list". This words really drove down the message to me. Thank You.
The pleasure is mine. Thanks for visiting
I knew I would not regret following you the moment I did. I read one of your post and that's why I took the action by following. Yet another well composed and educative post from you. I'm still trying to get along here as I am newbie but intending to be a professional. Thanks for the hardwork put in this post. Bless you. #L'Ray

It's always good to choose people to follow carefully

Upvoted and Resteemed
@vickyrich
Thank you @vickyrich
I'm picky when it comes to following people so when I follow someone, I don't expect them to follow me back immediately but give them a reason to, for that they won't take me for granted.
Thank you, boss, for yet another educative posts.
Welcome boss
You know, I had always thought an author's SP was the most important in decidding whether to follow him/her or not.
I know better now. Thanks so much
Hahahahahsh you should have keep following the big guys and wait forever for their visits. Thanks
Yes I agree. But one must also consider the other factors too, like you listed.
Wow....thanks i learnt a lot from this info. Initially it looked like an unimportant aspect of steemit but i get the point naw. I will work on it.
Good you understand
Gbam! again another epic share to succeed in steemit. It is high to vet steemians i am following.
Better do. 😀
Yes boss
I'm one of those who have underestimated the power of Followings. Thanks for this eye opener
Welcome sir
Thanks for these tips @eurogee, I agree with your advice, it is very important to keep in touch with fellow steemians especially with our followers and followings. After all this is one of the essences of this kind of platform, to keep us connected to each other, sharing our time, effort, talent and resources. Giving time to our fellows is the most priceless thing.
Your 'following list' is your most important asset. Thanks
Good one @eurogee, i've been hearing so much about you.
I'm glad i stumbled on this post, i've learnt a lot from it.
Thank for making an impact and i'm looking forward to lesson number 2
Welcome boss. Thanks a Lotta
Nice read I make it simple and just follow people who write good content and stuff I like to read. In the beginning I followed a lot of people and whales later I kicked many out because there content was not what interests me or was just not good.
Have a nice day :)
Hahahahahahahahsb....
Everyone got similar story indeed!
Thanks for the visit
@eurogee
I am indeed grateful for this post because it is really an eye opener for newbies like me. Thanks
Good you realized it. Have fun
This is very helpful for newbies in Steemit to socialize with other Steemians. In here "no man is an island". We need to interact and help each other to be successful and to move forward.
Welcome boss
It's an important asset that most people ignore. When you follow the rubbish set of people then your feed will be flooded with rubbish type of posts..
