With ads becoming an omnipresent nuisance (Ted Talk) or Filter Bubbles censoring our information (another Ted Talk), social media has slowly but surely become a platform to make money off users at the expense of the user. Not to mention none of us were asked if this was OK, it just happened. These are current problems, based on the current infrastructure of centralized companies.
A couple of Black Mirror episodes on Netflix haven’t helped, portraying dystopian worlds where social media controls your whole life and outcome, and where the only way to earn “merits” are to watch ads, and you have to pay a large sum to have them removed for 15 minutes. These dystopian worlds are not realistic, but they have a good point: When will we draw the line? Recent hope in Blockchain technology and decentralization can and should divert these fears, and bring the power back to the people.
Howdoo, a project working to give this power back, is one that has the potential to usher in a new era of how we interact digitally every day.
Howdoo (and it’s token, udoo) is a social media platform ran by blockchain technology. It is decentralized and community centered, giving trust, control, and choice to the user. Ads are optional, and if chosen, users will get rewarded for them. This way, users and advertisers both benefit: Adverts reach there target audience and the audience gets paid. There’s fairness. Another key feature with howdoo is it’s openness and transparency. People are asked and prepared to share their data and their ad space, so that the user has full piece of mind.

Today, the world is becoming increasingly connected digitally. This allows huge networks of people to come together and create something valuable to the world community (Cryptocurrency, Blockchain, and open source platforms like Linux and Mozilla were all created this way). However, big companies have huge taxes on new products, high transaction fees from banks, and a select few calling the shots. This is the exact opposite of democracy, and it has not worked.
With Howdoo, these large communities are rewarded based on contribution, so that while providing a service for the community, people do not have to heed to large companies. This is a win win situation. Howdoo grows and allows people to connect, share, trade, and transact money with complete control, while there are no people who have to pay the price. As the community grows, users grow with it. Why has it not always been this way?
In short, todays problems have solutions. Actually, many problems today have been solved, but the implementation and application has been halted due to bureaucracy and a lack of incentive. This familiar pattern of solving a problem, then having a delayed period (years, usually) until the solution is implemented is not new. Social media’s problems are not an exception. It is only a matter of time until they are solved worldwide, so hold on and embrace the change!
