Making money with Amazon Affiliate, Chapter 2: Keyword research – Part 1
This is the most important part of the entire process of building Amazon Affiliate sites. If you master keyword research, you can make money in almost any niche that has products being sold on Amazon. But if your keyword research is not done the right way, you could have a real hard time building a site that generates money every month like clockwork – even if you get the rest of the process right. You might have the best site design, very well written content and appealing images, you could even be getting a good amount of traffic but if you are targeting the wrong keywords, your site would not make money. That’s right – even if a site gets traffic if the keyword listed is wrong, all of the work done in creting the site would be wasted. On the other hand, your site may not have the best design and the content may not be the best, but if you target the right kind of keywords, chances are your site will make money every month.
The process between customers visiting your site to getting their credit cards out.
Anyone buying just about anything online goes through a process, a series of stages. The online buying process:
• Awareness
• Research
• Evaluation of alternatives
• Purchase
• Post purchase
• Brand loyalists
Lets observe the stages through which a customer goes when he wants to purchase a flat screen TV and the relevant keywords for them:

| Brand loyalists | Apple TV, best Samsung TV, Sony Tvs |
The kind of keywords you target directly affect how much revenue you can generate from your Amazon Affiliate site. You do NOT want to be a mere information provider. We want to “catch” the customer in the buying phase so he converts more. You want to target searches who are in stages 3 and 4. You DO NOT want to target searchers who are in 1 and 2 cause we can not make money from them.
Best kind of keywords for Amazon Affiliate sites
Lets have an example with a site which sells watches.
• Best watches
• Best watches under $200
• Wrist watch reviews
• < Product name >
• < Model number >
As discussed previously you may have a few pages on informational keywords but we mostly want to focus on people who want to BUY.
Find sub niches within the main niche; target keywords in those sub niches too
• Best < product >
• < product reviews >
• < product name >
• < model number >
DO NOT compete head-on with large companies by targeting their brand names.
