In these turbulent times we live in, I think it is wise to prepare for the worst to happen. The U.S. stock market is soaring so high and so fast now that I am expecting a crash at any time. Maybe this sounds pessimistic, but the euphoria we are seeing about the stock market reminds me of the euphoria just before the 1929 market crash. There are several similarities.
I'm not suggesting that we should all stock up on ten years worth of food and survival supplies (personally, the small closets in my house won't hold that much and yours probably won't either). But it makes sense to me to have a couple months or more of food and personal hygiene items stocked up.
We should be wise like many of our grandparents. Those who raised big gardens made sure to can much of their produce so they would have plenty to eat during the winters (stocking up for leaner times), and they usually purchased only what they really needed (saving their money for leaner times). Most of them were natural experts at "prepping". They had to be to survive.
Most of us don't raise gardens and can our own produce now, but we can purchase a few extra cans of food and hygiene items each week and stock up that way. If the SHTF, the grocery stores can run out of food in just a few days. Just notice how fast the store shelves are emptied of essential food items when a major storm warning is in effect. It makes you think.
Let's be wise like our grandparents.
I agree we can't be too careful when it comes to at least prepping a bit. Wanting to stock up on food too, and especially salt! it will come in handy for mineral needs but also for curing meat and preserving other foods.
