Life can become very hectic at times. Yet it is vital to remember to take care of your health. Did you know that the state your body is in can have a direct impact on the flow of your creativity? When we’re in a creative flow, we can forget we even have a body. Our mind is exploding with all sorts of sounds, colors, sensations, and feelings when we’re in our “creative zone.”
It is very frustrating, as you can imagine, when your creative flow is interrupted with painful bodily sensations such as headaches or back pains from sitting in one position for too long.
One Important Thing
Our creative mind requires one important thing – Our body. If you’re sitting hunched over a keyboard all day or at a computer, this will not provide good results for your body. You must remember to take care of it properly in order for creativity to flow more smoothly.
Getting enough sleep, eating healthily, getting exercise, and drinking enough water are all essential for taking care of your body. Fatigue and malnutrition are great ways to NOT take care of your body. They will lessen your ability to problem solve and think creatively.
How To Get Creativity Flowing
Have you ever experienced a time where you could just not get the creativity flowing? It’s extremely frustrating when this happens. A good thing to do is to ask yourself what you were feeling, if you can remember, the last time you were in a creative slump.
Were you feeling tired, hungry, or thirsty? A good exercise to do is to take care of all of your physical needs before your next creativity sessions. When you have all of your physical needs met and your living in the moment, your creativity will be able to flow much more smoothly.
Another thing you can try is creativity writing. Just take a pen, notebook, and start writing about whatever comes to your mind. You will release a lot of negative energy this way, which will help you more to live in the moment.
Something to Try
Here is something you can try on a daily basis to increase creativity, productivity, and workflow. End your evening activities a half an hour or early and do something which relaxes you. Take a bath, read a book, get a massage, practice meditation, or do whatever it is that helps you relax. Then get a full night’s rest.
Each of us has a creative gift to share with the world, but you won’t be able to share it if your mind is disconnected with your body.
I agree that self-care is very important for your own success. It's hard to do anything when you are running on empty!
Yes. Make sure you're in the zone before getting into your creative space :)
Yes, free writing with no obvious goal is a great way to divest yourself of any negativity that's hanging around. Once that's done, you can really open up and let creativity flow.
Exactly. I need to do that more myself. Seems like there are not enough hours in a day.
