How To Make An Easy Origami Heart - Photo Tutorial

in #howto7 years ago (edited)

Hello fellow Steemians, creating something from a single sheet of paper can be very stress-relieving, so why not take a few minutes to fold something each day? Today we have a pretty origami heart to make.

Valentines Day is coming up in February! I guess you still have a lot of time before then, but these origami hearts make a great little gift for your girlfriend, wife, partner or crush (at any time of year).

They are very easy to make, all you need is one sheet of paper. The size of the paper needs to be regular printer size, A4 or US letter paper will be fine. Exact sizes I recommend are: 17 x 12 cm, 29.7 x 21 cm, 21 x 15 cm or 15 x 10.6 cm.

You can even pop a ribbon or string through it before closing the final folds, turning it into a necklace!

Here is a photo tutorial to teach you this easy paper heart. A video link is provided at the bottom of my post as well.

Start with the paper with the side you don't want seen at the end, facing up. Fold the bottom right corner diagonally up to the left side. Unfold. Fold the bottom left corner diagonally up to the right side.

Flip the paper over to the other side. Fold the bottom edge up, use the center of the previous creases to guide where the crease should be. Unfold. Flip the paper over and rotate it.

Bring the top left and right edges inwards and the top edge will fold down. Flatten this top section. Fold the bottom edge up about 1 third the way up. Fold the bottom edge up to meet the bottom edge of the top section. (If you have less area here, you can just fold up once.)

Fold the left and right front layers of the top section up to the top point. Flip the paper over to the other side. Fold to top point down, aligning the point with the bottom of the top section. Fold the left and right sides in to align with the flap you made in the last step.

Nearly done! Fold the top points diagonally down to the opposing edges, and then pop them underneath the flaps. Fold the bottom corners diagonally inwards to create the bottom of the heart. Now finish off by inserting this corners inside the convenient little pockets.

I also made a video tutorial of this heart which I uploaded to youtube here:

If you made one, I'd love to see how it turned out, or if you need help, don't hesitate to ask in the comments! <3

The older I get, the more I enjoy origami and kirigami.
Have you spoken to @choogirl about joining #teamaustralia?

Not yet, I think I'm registered. But yet to post an introduction, so I'll do that first and then speak to her :)
I'm only just getting into simple kirigami lately. Do you have any favourites?

There's a simple butterfly I make absent mindedly at work. Suddenly I realise my desk is covered :)

Oh the butterfly looks really nice! I'll have to give it a go sometime :)

This is a nice format. I love it, it's really easy to follow. Hope to see lots more Origami tutorials on Steemit. Keep going!

Thanks!
