We all know how the world suffers, along with the plants and animals in it, all because of one specific species called the Homo sapiens sapiens, or more commonly known as the Man.
Well, what is a man?
In my view, man is just like any other mammal, a viviparous creature that just keeps producing more of its kind day after night. Which sounds pretty normal, since it's in the basic gene structure of all organisms to reproduce and keep up their hereditary chain. So, what makes man to be the cause of world's distress?
Enter, emotion.
Human beings are the only species on earth who have a variety of complex emotional settings implanted upon them by the nature. We are the only organism who can manipulate the world around us with our emotions, unlike other organisms who let the world manipulate their emotions.
Enter, Greed.
Greed is the root of all human emotions, the emotion that is so harmful to the man and others around him, greed can cause one to be self-centered, ignorant, angry and condescending. When a man has a feeling of superiority over others, he starts feeling more powerful. Then greed and power combine to form vanity.
If it weren't for greed, empires wouldn't be formed, multi-billionaires wouldn't exist and more over, there would be no invasion of the middle east nations by the United States in the name of Democracy.
It all started with the development of the human civilization when one man with a certain land and a house started letting others live near him in exchange for their help. That's how slavery and labour started on earth. The greed grew hand over fist and soon various such men started vying for more food, more land, more workers, more power.
It hasn't changed, but only gotten worse. Now we vie for more money, more oil, more land, higher social status and what not?
But why?
Life is an eternal void. There is no eternity, there is no afterlife. There is no way you are taking all your possessions with you when you die, you're gonna live the same age as any other man in your country. You can't escape your destiny. And yet, you continue to fight for more. You keep fighting for more power and in the process you forget, power is what makes you weaker. That urge, that drive, that kick you get when going after more power and prize is what's gonna be the end of you.
What should we do?
Earth is a common home for all organisms. We should learn to be a good member of the eco-system and try to protect it. Instead of depleting the ozone, polluting the river, killing all the cows and lambs, we should learn to respect all. In a world where we don't respect our fellow man, maybe I'm being too optimistic by asking you to respect the nature. But maybe, as the old Indian saying goes, 'Only when the last tree has died and the last river been poisoned and the last fish been caught, we will realize we cannot eat money.'
We are the breed which spends billions of dollar searching for life on other planets, and trillions on ending life in this one.
Are we still going to wait until there is no more fresh air to breathe, no fish to eat and no trees to make papers of on which we so eloquently write "SAVE TREES!" and go to rallies on June the 5th?
Are we?
Perfectly!
