Religious bullies need to kill and silence you because they cannot argue truthfully about Islamic teachings on their own merit. They cannot defend the indefensible. I know many atheist Muslims who are afraid to 'come out' because apostasy is so frowned upon (it even carries the death penalty in some Islamic states).
I agree that it's important to shine a light on the ideas, values and beliefs rather than to attack people on a personal level. Unfortunately, people are so emotionally attached to their beliefs, they feel personally violated when anyone criticises them.
