To Zipline or Not To Zipline (a terrifying bucket list challenge)

in #humor7 years ago

Ok, so I promised my husband, after watching Jim Carrey's Yes Man, that I would say "yes" to everything! What the hell was I thinking? Here's a little backstory...I am terrified of heights and have been forever. I mean, I can fly without problems but to cross a suspension bridge or walk on a ledge high up is another story. Rollercoaster - nope, ferris wheels - no way, bungee jumping - not ever! So, right after the movie, my loving husband takes this opportunity to just blurt out "So, we going ziplining?" Of course, he knows I have to say "yes" because I never back down from a challenge. I say "yes" and I literally almost threw up in fear. He laughed and laughed saying that he loves this new game. I am so distraught by saying "yes" to this that I haven't really slept well in 3 days.
I had to wake up to this realization that the old habit of fear of heights comes from somewhere in my past so I need to get rid of that attachment of fear.
I have been watching zipline videos like the one here over and over and each time I watch, it doesn't get easier. It amps me up.
I do meditate on this one fear and I am really counting on myself to suck it up and be brave when the time comes. If you have overcome a fear like this one, let me know what it was and what you did to overcome it. I mean, I swam with dolphins in the middle of the shark infested waters in the Bay of Islands in New Zealand and I wasn't scared. Why is this zipline thing freaking me out so much? My husband says he is just going to take me there and I am going to jump into the unknown...this will eliminate my fear! I agree with him but I wanna pee my pants thinking about it. AAAAAAAHHHHH
