I hope you managed to see more in Sofia than a "Big ass church", Russian church and full hostels. In Bulgaria to find the place you want to go is the part of the adventure (it's hard for bulgarians, too). If I read your post and I was never here I would wanted to go somewhere else. Now.... I want to go for a walk on the old streets of Sofia. :)

I walk everywhere for that very reason. The main reason I love travelling is not to see the touristy landmarks, it's to absorb the culture and the only way you are going to do that is go down all the side streets and get lost. Being a capital city Sofia is very confusing, so even though it was annoying getting lost all the time, seeing all the local markets and taking in the energy more than made up for it :-)
