The security issues were not them getting hacked, rather them realizing some really dumb user password control, and taking the nuclear route. They set a new password requirement, and then started getting DDOS. Amazon then required them to make some changes due to shared hosting.

It sucks for users who had short term goals, but what they are doing really is for the best interest of the end user. Us miners do have access to funds though so we have the larger windfall here.

I mean I also used nicehash where you can rent hashing power to make the bulk of the money. Even people without miners could have done that, but I leveraged the low difficulty and confusion to make some bank real quick!
