Lucyd - The ICO Set to Make Augmented Reality a Reality in 2018

In 1982, the Steven Lisberger movie 'Tron' wowed audiences with state-of-the-art (for the 1980’s at least) CGI special effects. What really made Tron a cult classic, however, was the idea of fully immersive virtual reality. What is more, people have been reimagining and attempting to create real “virtuality” worlds ever since.

Of course, what even the best innovators have found, is that VR brings with it a lot of usability limitations. People who use VR, after all, still have to navigate around the real world.

Thankfully, fully immersive augmented reality (AR) completely dispenses with such VR limitations. Much more excitingly, hundreds of ICO traders and investors have already pledged support for one of the most innovative augmented reality apps and consumer tech pieces ever to hit the wider consumer market.

By 2023, the market for augmented reality apps like those which Lucyd is about to give a platform is expected to grow to over $36.4 billion in value. Needless to say, such estimates are fantastic news for ICO traders and investors who have already pledged support for Lucyd. As it is, however, $36.4 billion is likely also a very conservative estimate.

Already, other ICO startups like NAU, are disrupting the traditional marketing world by allowing local businesses to advertise directly to smartphone users in their local area. It is not inconceivable in this case, that in future, such businesses will also advertise via Lucyd smart glass AR billboards and similar devices.

When Will Lucyd Actually Launch?

At present, Lucyd is on-track to launch as early as the first quarter of 2019. This being the case, truly augmented reality apps are now only a year from becoming as commonplace as regular apps and mainstream consumer tech offerings. This is a great concept and AR is definitely the way the world is going. The product sounds like a mix between the ODG R-7 glasses and another company named Vue who make Bluetooth-enabled smart glasses. I look forward to seeing the hardware prototype when it is ready next year!

I completely agree, I believe smart glasses will become the next big trend! Even Amazon is developing Alexa based smart glasses. What I love is that they are so extremely basic compared to the prototype Lucyd will develop. The patents they hold were amassed over a decade of research within the worlds leading optics and photonics university. I have faith this project will be extremely successful!
