AN OVERVIEW OF THE OPIRIA PLATFORM
Your personal data has been routinely accessed, processed and packaged from institutions and social media; sold to companies, politicians, etc. without due compensation. That development is worrisome and about to change. OPIRIA; as an existing company in this industry has looked into these challenges from the consumer and the industry perspective; brainstormed and came up with lasting solutions that will benefit and motivate both parties into active participation in line with GDPR recommendations. Before we delve into these challenges and the solutions proffered, lets acquaint ourselves with the word; OPIRIA.
OPIRIA
Opiria; is an existing organization in data related transactions between consumers and companies. They are also into market research related activities. Currently, Opiria is scaling up to reflect the GDPR specifications; launching a decentralized marketplace for a secure and transparent trading of personal data between consumers and companies, in exchange for payments which will be made in PDATA tokens (a utility token minted and utilized by the Opiria ecosystem). The exchange has been made possible through smartcontracts on the Opiria based blockchain. According to the platform, a consumer’s consent to release personal data will trigger the smart contract into paying him/her some PDATA token in exchange for the released data to a company.
Companies taking part in this exercise has the sole aim of understanding customer needs and requirements; in other to design products and services that will fuel consumer desire. The platform also helps them to perfectly target marketing and sales activities. Automobile makers like the Mercedes Benz, Nissan, Volkswagen, BMW, Audi Freightliner and GM are all part of the Opiria Clientele; P&G also. This goes to show that the OPIRIA prospect is huge.
As an existing business with thriving customer base and revenue; Opiria is currently scaling to become a bigger player in the industry; globally. In this regard, they have approached the blockchain community to raise a 30 million USD, which may go up to 35 million USD if fully subscribed in 5 days. Below is a roadmap showing a timeline of Opiria startup history, what has been and yet to be achieved in the upgrade; to give you a glimpse of the need for such fund.
In all of the above stated, Opiria has either encountered or envisaged some challenges which includes;
- Unwillingness on the part of the customers to release their real data
- Unwillingness to participate in the data sharing exercise
- Stringent measures put in place by the General Data Protection Regulation, etc.
For the above two challenges; Opiria has introduced a compensation for consumers, regarding any data released at the quest of their clients and to encourage active participation.
Regarding the third challenge; Opiria has adopted the use of blockchain to ensure fundamental data privacy of consumers. This in turn, fulfills the GDPR directives such as;
- Processing based on Consumer’s consent
- Pseudonymisation, encryption, anonymisation etc.
- Right of access to consumers on how their data is been processed
- Right to update, complete and erasing personal data from the platform
- Documentation of all data processes for possible audit
