It could definitely use steem technology. I think this platform, as it is, is limiting their potential. Perhaps an app like zappl can be build on top and support this. I've made a similar post in the past, building an imgur-like app on top of steem.

An account on Steemit is access to free content in every sense of the word :) Gonna be interesting to see how the crowd dynamics play out here for the future of content distribution..
I am sure it will be massive once people discover the potential of Steem and I think EOS will bring everything together as some point.
