Contrary to the popular saying that “Ignorance is bliss”, I dare say it isn’t. It is a prison. It is a hideous mask that prevents all things of beauty and life from coming your way. It is a shackle that cuffs your hands and feet to the pole of limitation. With ignorance, you can never know what you truly are capable of doing and you can never maximize your potentials. You are limited in every way while you delude yourself into thinking that you are living your life fully.
In my former life, I deliberately stayed within the confines of ignorance because I deceived myself that it was better. I felt I would be unable to handle the truth and reality of life and so I remained in my comfort zone. I became a prison to my own self. I lost a lot to ignorance. I deluded myself into thinking I knew a lot when in truth I knew nothing. Ever heard of the saying, “He who does not know and does not know that he does not know and does not want to know is a fool”? Well, that was me.
I didn’t want to know about the world, politics, sports or anything surrounding me. I felt I couldn’t stomach the news of how terrible the world has become. I didn’t understand that it is only in knowing that I would be able to contribute my quota into saving it. However, in my new life now, I like information. I want to know as much as I can. I recently did a research on cryptocurrency to find out more about Bitcoin and how technology has found its way into the financial world.
Studying this made me understand it more than the periphery and boosted my confidence enough to have intelligent conversations with others about the topic.
Ignorance keeps you in the dark. It shuts out every avenue for light to come into your life and just keeps you hostage. Knowledge is never hidden from us. It is all around us if only we allow ourselves to perceive it and open our minds to learn. There is indeed so much we can learn from – a little child playing, the gentility of the breeze across our faces, a flowing stream, droplets of rain, etc.
A wonderful and unlimited resource of knowledge is books. In books, you find answers to questions and even solutions to problems. You do realize that there is nothing new under the sun, right? There is nothing we go through now that is new. It has happened before, sometime in the past. In books, you find answers and a pool of knowledge waiting for you to explore it. Once you develop a habit of reading at least a chapter of a book each day, your mind is bound to expand and your perception of life would change.
Keep yourself in the know. Ignorance is never bliss.
We have been given the gift of free will…. an opportunity to make choices in life. We have been blessed with the capacity to think and make decisions for ourselves. Education exposes us to life before, around and within us. Knowledge isn’t just acquiring degrees or certificates from courses. In fact, knowledge is more than this. It is our understanding of a particular situation either through experience or education.
Knowledge reveals to you, your limitless possibilities and removes the scales from your eyes. Knowledge rips off the mask of ignorance and exposes your beautiful face.
In knowledge, the beauty of life is shown to you.
In knowledge, the grace of God is known to you.
In knowledge, you get a better understanding of life.
In knowledge, you are best able to exercise your rights to your life.
In knowledge, you are celebrated.
In knowledge, you become a success.
In knowledge, you recognize opportunities to wealth.
Don’t make the same mistake I made and for a second delude yourself into thinking ignorance is bliss. Far from it.
Keep yourself in the know. Ignorance is never bliss.
IGNORANCE IS A DISASTER.
Whatever you choose to be ignorant about doesn’t change because you decide to ignore it. You need to face facts and deal with them accordingly in every area of life. Harlan Ellison did say, “You are not entitled to your opinion. You are entitled to your informed opinion. No one is entitled to be ignorant.”
Ignorance is the founding father of fear. It hides the truth of who and what you are and cloaks you with blackness. With ignorance, we settle for less than we deserve thinking we have plenty when we have nothing. Arm yourself with the weapon of knowledge. As the Good Book says, “my people perish for lack of knowledge”.
Do not out of ignorance destroy what will bring you joy and answers to your prayers.
Do not out of ignorance, imprison yourself.
Do not out of ignorance, wreck havoc on your life.
Do not out of ignorance, rid yourself of peace and happiness.
Do not out of ignorance, do as John Marsden said, “We kill all the caterpillars, then complain there are no butterflies.”
You can only be ignorant if you choose to be. Knowledge is out there for you to seek and acquire it as you deem fit. Equip yourself now and go make the most of your life. You have no excuse not to make it in life because of ignorance. Keep yourself abreast of situations and what’s going on around you. It is only when you know that you would know how to act. You are created for so much more.
