I believe it still does. It is unlikely most would be aware or even agree. In order to figure this out we need to first go back in time. George Washington who was a Freemason had read a book published around his time. "Proofs of a Conspiracy Against All the Religions and Governments of Europe" by John Robison.
John Robison had painted a portrait of how the Illuminati were never eliminated but in fact had gone under ground. Then that once again was eliminated in Germany but at this point had infiltrated Freemasonry and had spread throughout Europe pointing to the French Revolution as in part caused by Illuminati.
The Illuminati's founder, Adam Weishaupt, was a philosopher and lawyer who was heavily influenced by the ideas of the Enlightenment. He believed that traditional religion was a major obstacle to human progress and that it was necessary to create a new, more rational and scientific worldview in order to achieve true freedom and equality.
The short lived Cult of Reason, took place. Which was the abolishment of the Catholic faith and given rise to Reason as the religion. This sounds very familiar to communism. The Illuminati came forth shortly after the Jesuits were abolished by the Pope.
Weishaupt was a Jesuit. How this secret organization popped up overnight was likely do to his training and ability to find other like minded Jesuit at the time. The man power was already there and ripe. So one might ask why would a Jesuit attack the Catholic Church? I would ask why does any disgruntled do what they do.
The Baltimore Plot, was an assassination attempt against President-elect Abraham Lincoln in February 1861, just before his inauguration. The plot was allegedly hatched by the group of Southern sympathizers known as the Knight's of the Golden Cross and secessionists who were opposed to Lincoln's election and the abolition of slavery. The plan was to blow up the railroad bridge over the Susquehanna River, which would have killed Lincoln and his entourage as they traveled to Washington, D.C. for the inauguration.
On July 17, 1861, Thomas S. Butler, who was a Representative from Pennsylvania, read into the Congressional Record the oath of the Knights of the Golden Circle. The society was known for its extreme and violent tactics, and its members were sworn to secrecy through a blood oath. This oath is eerily similar to the Fourth Vow also known as the Extreme Oath of the Jesuits which every priest is required to take.
Abraham Lincoln, the 16th President of the United States, was assassinated on April 14, 1865. He was shot by John Wilkes Booth, a well-known actor and Confederate sympathizer, while attending a play at Ford's Theatre in Washington, D.C. Booth was believed to be with Knights of the Golden Cross.
Jesuit-edited book of Mein Kampf (1925): The Jesuit order was involved in editing and promoting Adolf Hitler's book Mein Kampf, which outlined his fascist ideology.
Smedley Butler's "Business Plot" (1933): Smedley Butler, a Marine Corps general, exposed a plot by a group of wealthy businessmen to overthrow the US government and establish a fascist regime. This plot was allegedly linked to the American Legion and Knight's of the Golden Cross.
Skull and Bones legacy and Prescott Bush's involvement in funding the Nazi war (1930s-1940s): The Skull and Bones society, a secret society at Yale University, has been linked to the Bush family and other wealthy elites. Prescott Bush, the father of George H.W. Bush, was involved in funding the Nazi war effort through his business dealings with the Thyssen family and other German industrialists.
The Illuminati never left they evolved. And George Washington was correct in becoming suspicious and worried. Right now the America and the rest of the world are at a crossroad once again. And it is the hidden hand they we should be made aware of.

I think there are 'illuminates' in all sorts of ummm religions/faiths and stuff, similar to 'black belts' like a black belt in what? so here an Illuminati of what?
tho some sort of power above it all, probably the power thats controlling the UN/EU/WEF etc might be called the Illuminati, but whatever they called i don't think much matters. i prefer 'them'!
