Redcom Internet Advert

I've got this order in the last days of 2017. We've discussed everything with my client and both gone holidays. First 10 days of the year almost whole Russia is sleeping so I had to show some sketches by 10th of January 2018.

Redcom is Far Eastern Russian internet and TV provider. Originally they are from Khabarovsk city. It's my hometown. They told me they chose me because I was born there. Strange but okay, I am glad they felt some roots or safety to work with me.

Ideas and sketching

I had to show 3 different packages they are going to sell and the main idea is like first one is very basic, second is balanced universal for the whole family and the last one is their best for the most demanding clients. Together with Redcom we've brainstormed this visual shapes.

First sketch came out like this. I saw their site and thought they wanted simple images without any background. But their concurents have this sort of light style so they've asked me to use thick background and sofa as we were talking about it.

They liked everything except market candles. I thought these days everyone can read this silouettes but maybe they don't use crypto still so they've asked me to change that to something else and start coloring.

Process

I've been preparing to post this so I've done lots of screenshots during the process. As I am usually work in Photoshop I am always trying to draw every single object in different layer so later I can easily change color or shape or even move that. For this advert it was important to leave background and switch off different parts of the illustration to use it as 4 different advert images.

If the sketch is an outline then I am multiplying in on top of other layers and then process looks as simple as this image:

Then I've found some nice photos of sofas with the leaf pattern and started to draw my own pattern inspired by that.

While we had been discussing ideas I've told the budget is too small but they can not make it better so they've used a hint on me. They said what if for the third character you will draw an old yogie in a meditation posture doing lots of things together as if he was a successfull businessman with 6 hands like Shiva? They've ate the bait and agreed. This is my favorite theme as you know. Yoga and all that...

Same principe here. Separate layers for each object drawn with hard round brush, locking transparency, adding shadows, lights and other details. Finally my yogie was ready for the client presentation.

For the central part I've got the idea from one of my old illustrations with big father holding the whole family with his hands. This image was done for the Yoga Family festival.

Client asked to remove the papers from gradfather cause it looked like a mess adding the feeling as if he is not good as successfull as supposed to be.

Girl is holding my favorite device. I love it's design. This kickstand could be transformed to use it as a canvas or laptop or something in between.

Finished and sent it to for review crossing fingers. I thought its over. But this was not the end. As you can see they've asked me to add more colors and details to the first situation and to change the standard Far Eastern Russian man look to something more valuable.

Than I've switched all the character layers and fixed all the patterns under.

Final

Added sample layers for design layouts with logo and all the texts. This was just my guideline recommendation and I don't know what will be their final but hope something similar to mine. Finished this illustration almost a week ago.
