Migrants hurdled up in a boat
There is a believe among African folks that; ones you leave your homeland, you are going to make it anywhere you are. Where ever that misconceptualized information came from, it has killed thousands on the high Sea and in the scorching deserts as they try to get into Europe and other countries by foot.
My two lost friends...
While growing up, i had two very good friends; i was a bosom friend with one, the other we were just on the average. As at the time i wrote this post, whether dead or alive, i have no clue because i have tried all in my power to find them and reconnect with them since over a decade now; tried all existing social media to look them up, all to no avail.
With their names withheld, each of my two friends had nursed the idea of running away to foreign land right from our junior years in high school.
Unluckily, we were all separated towards our getting to senior classes. "Splitted" up and we have never seen or heard of each other 18 years onward. While one has a very strong reason to want to leave and never come back, the other just want to leave as a sign of respect to his folks.
The one with a very strong cause, my very close friend had no parents to take care of him; lost his mum few months after his 8th birthday, and dad dropped him off with a family who never took very good care of him. We shared my lunch, took him home to my widowed(Still alive then) mum occasionally in our single bedroom apartment, my dear mum and my two elder siblings accepted him like their new me, last born of the family.
A lesser cause is my other friend, someone who has everything, both parents still hail and healthy but always skipping school often back then for whatever reasons he dims fit...
If they both made it out of the country to the other side of the World, i never knew. I still pray for their well being till date still hoping they are very much alive and nothing horrific had happened to them. So the question on my mind always is, how does someone pray for a long lost but not forgotten friend and still keep the faith? That is me in a nut-shell.
Many of this immigrants have s much stronger reasons to leave their home land and try their chances of survival in another land as a stranger. While several of them are just hopelessly gutless like one of my friends mentioned earlier.
So each time i see the news and see how immigrants are treated and how they suffer to survive. i see and think of my close friend: picturing him in hard and hopeless situations.
Will any of the Freed Nigerian Chibok Girls now across the Globe ever want to come back home?
Others are victims of insurgencies, some seeking asylum as they can never step foot on their various home countries and live till the other day. For instance; imagine the Chibok girls of North-Eastern Nigeria, Remember them?
Can anyone ask this freed/escaped and recovered Chibok Girls to come back home to their mother land at any price, will the trauma allow them blink twice before stamping the NO foot? This is a short side of the story of some of this migrants and many more are their plights where ever they are around the world.
Wow!....This is so deep my friend.
I pray they are well in good health, and i wish you guys reconnect. Be strong mate!
Amen my dear friend......Much love mate!
This is our story, your story, my story. Many did not make it into Europe, those who wanted to cross to Spain by land. They drank camel urine, abandoned by their paid traveler agents and died in the desert. It is the experience of many, not one, not two.
Not 100s not 200s....
You got that right, not my story but Africa's Story.
The grass always seems greener on the other side, but it never is.
Very true @dragonslayer109, am honored to get a comment from you.
you right..a lot of people have that opinion that leaving our countries will avail us more opportunities and it is also evident in the lives of others that we have met in life. Even from interacting with my cousin that had lived in the uk for many years. I could see her level of exposure to various things in life.
However, one thing that is not mentioned is the amount of hard work that is needed for the individual to put in.
I am not gainst the idea of travelling abroad for a better life because as itis stated in islam..."seek knowledge" and a lot of countries have many ground breaking discoveries in various feilds to offer the world, so i do not see it as a bad idea to travel for some of these reasons. But we must not let the fruits fall far far from the tree
Seeking knowledge with Sense....i agree with you
