My friend Latif was born in Sudan. On this day he and 48 others were formally awarded the "privilege" of residing within the geographic confines of the USA. The ceremony was held at the Department of Homeland Security, US Citizenship and Immigration Services building.
Among so many memorable moments, they all affirmed an oath to "...support and defend the Constitution AND LAWS of the United States of America against all enemies, foreign and domestic."
The ceremony included a generic video message from the president, some mini flag waving, the pledge of allegiance led by a child, and some light-hearted polling about how long people had waited in this country to become "legal." The emcee asked everyone in the room to stand up to indicate their presence in this country for incrementing periods of time. The last man standing had been here for 44 years. Apparently the record in this office was 48 years. This occurred before I started the video.
At the end of the ceremony it was announced that the "ladies from voter registration" were there to help them get signed up on the way out the door.
The audio is faint in this video but if there is significant interest I can enhance and render a better version.
