…continued… from part 1, part 2, and part 3.
Still on this series. We have discussed about Time, Seasons, Numbers and the fourth one to be discussed today would be about Impacts.
4. Measure Your Life By Impacts.
Giving is best when you give to someone who might never be able to repay you. When you give to another with the intention of getting back, then you only made a deposit or a transaction. Giving to someone who might never be able to repay you weighs much more in value and impacts.
I read a story about a small boy that gave Bill Gates free newspapers back when he was struggling. The boy would use his profit from the sale of the newspaper to give Bill Gates free newspapers since he was unable to afford one back then. The boy did on two occasions.
When Bill Gates finally hit his millions, he had to search for the boy. He asked if the boy could remember him and the boy answered him by telling him ”Yes, i remember you. I used to give you free newspapers and you are now the richest man”. Bill Gates told him he is back to repay him and the boy told him quite honestly that he cannot be repaid because he gave Bill Gates those free newspapers with all he had and when he was poor, and now that he is rich, he wants to give to him only a fraction from all he has. The boy gave all, Bill Gates is about to give only a fraction, so they don’t equate. Also, the boy gave when he was poor, Bill Gates wanted to give when he had enough.
Life is about impacts and we are only recognized by the lives that we have touched and the impacts we have made. We still talk about Michael Faraday. We still talk about Steve Jobs. We still talk about Bill Gates, Mother Teresa, Martin Luther King Jr. and a host of others. We can only talk about them because of the legacy they left behind. We can only talk about them because of their impacts.
You want to live life to the fullest, measure your life by impacts and let the desire to make your mark fuel your daily living. It saves us from unnecessary frustrations and feeling of failure. How many lives have you touched? Measure your life by impacts.
...to be continued...

If i take it as "do your best but never expect it to be repaid" then it is not wrong. In Hindi we call 'karm' i.e our deed. Make sure to keep doing the deed, without any greed to get something in return.

Absolutely. Greed is what led the world into what we found ourselves today. Greed hinders us and limit our impacts. Helping others without thinking of getting paid like you said is key.
Thanks a lot for this.
Finally, a life without impact is as good as never existed and its ofcourse important to understand that its not how long you live its how well you led the life.
Thanks alot
Absolutely...it is how well we lead our lives that matters and those whom we put smiles on their faces along the way.
I am a dementia care giver and I know the impact one can make in the lives of others. Thank you for this beautiful reminder
I am glad to see this comment. Really appreciate it.
The story of a boy and Bill Gates is new for me but it's very much interesting.
The boy gave him without expecting back it. That is the impact.
Exactly, he gave without expecting anything back and when they asked Bill Gates who he think is the richest in the world, he mentioned that boy.
Inspiring topic and really good writing :)
I really hope you read it and i appreciate your kind words. Gracias.
