About 300 houses were destroyed after a fire hit in Barangay Pajo, Lapu-Lapu City Friday afternoon.
Fire Senior Inspector Eulalio Muñez of the LCFD said the incident was eventually raised to general alarm at 5:35 p.m., which means that fire trucks from the different towns and cities helped to put out the fire.
In a report from DYSS radio, a mother said that she left her one-year-old and three-year-old children when she panicked after seeing the fire. As of press time, there is no confirmation yet from the LCFD if there is a casualty in the incident. Pajo Barangay Captain Junard Chan initially estimated 2,000 individuals who are homeless after the incident. LCFD received a report that a child was playing with something which was set on fire before the fire alarm. According to City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Officer Andy Berame, affected families will be temporarily placed in Pajo Elementary School and Pajo National High School. In case all the intended rooms for the evacuees will be filled, Berame said others will be transferred to the covered court of Barangay Pusok. Just a minute after the fire in Pajo, LCFD received another fire alarm in Sitio Humay-humay, Barangay Gun-ob at 7:45 p.m. Firefighters were able to control the fire at 8:20 p.m.
