Who is Ram Nath Kovind ? I haven't heard before. How did he became President ?
Well too many questions on everyone's mind about India's newly elected President Ram nath Kovind who emerged winner against former Lok sabha speaker Meira Kumar with thumping 65.65% votes.
A heroic Journey of Ram Nath Kovind:
Ram Nath Kovind was born on 1st Oct in the year 1945 in a farmer’s family in Uttar Pradesh’s Kanpur Dehat.
A student of Kanpur University, Kovind graduated in Commerce as well as Law. After that, he moved to Delhi in order to prepare for the civil services examination which he was able to clear in his 3rd attempt. However, he was not able to go for the selection and started practicing law.
In 1971, he got enlisted as an advocate with the Bar Council of Delhi and practiced law in Delhi High Court and Supreme Court for a period of 16 years, i.e., till 1993.
He was the Central Government counsel in Supreme Court from 1980 to 1983.
He had headed the BJPs Scheduled Caste Morcha between 1999 and 2002.
He had campaigned in Dalit areas of Uttar Pradesh to counter Mayawati in the 2012 assembly elections and considered to be close to Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh.
He has servers as Member of Board of Management of B.R. Ambedkar University, Lucknow and also as a Member of Board of Governors of Indian Institute of Management, Kolkata.
He had also addressed U.N. General Assembly in October 2012.
He is also know as a pioneer in spreading education. During his parliamentary tenure he emphasized on the development of basic infrastructure for education in rural areas of Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand under MPLAD scheme .
The Dalit politician has also been a board member at IIM-Kolkata and Dr. B R Ambedkar University, Lucknow.
Ram Nath Kovind became the governor of Bihar on August 8, 2015.
Kovind is the second Indian President who belongs to the Dalit community. Till now, KR Narayanan is the only Indian President who was from the Dalit community.
On July 20th 2017 He became President of India by defeating miera kumar of UPA opposition candidate.
